Proletariat Uprising

 Proletariat Uprising:

In Part 3, Chapter 3, O’Brien tells Winston that the proletarians or the slaves will never rise and overthrow us (The Party). He said “They are helpless.”  Winston feels this is not true and that The Party will eventually fail. Do some research and find out if any government system, that had complete power over the people, was ever overtaken by the suppressed, or lower class people, the proletariat.

Karl Marx

I did research and I found out on Karl Marx (1818-1883), he was a revolutionary German economist and philosopher, and the founder of the Communist movement. Marx was against capitalist bourgeoisie in treating the proletariat unfairly. The products created in the factory (the material outcome of the workers' labor) were sold for more than the value of the labor itself, more than the workers' wages. The wealth of the bourgeoisie depended on the work of the proletariat.

Therefore, capitalism requires an underclass. Eventually the proletariat would lead a revolution against the bourgeoisie. The final struggle would lead to the overthrow of capitalism and its supporters. The proletariats' defeat the capitalism, a new classless society would emerge based on the idea: 'from each according to there abilities. In such a society, land, industry, labor and wealth would be shared between all people. All people would have the right to an education, and class structures would disappear. Harmony would reign, and the state would simply 'wither away'.

This was a very brave thing that Karl Marx did to save his people.

Jewish proletariat resistance

Everyone knows about the horrible things Hitler put the Jews through around WWII. The genocide Hitler attempted was a tragic. He forced them into ghettos and moved them to concentration camps where they almost certainly died. The Jewish nation was the most deserted in history, they had to depend on their own resources. Gathering a resistance in the ghetto against the Nazis was only a dream to most, but became a reality to some. In Bialystok, a city made into a ghetto, the Jews put together a resistance to preserve their honor as Jews and maybe even preserve themselves. They gathered weapons, from guns to axes and crowbars to Molotov cocktails, anything that could potentially kill. On August 16, 1943, when the SS agents and the German army arrived to liquidate the city, the Jews fought back, making the Nazis pay for the Jewish lives they took. These Jews died with every ounce of honor they deserved.

French Revolution

The French Revolution had many lower class people rise up against the monarchy, because they felt as if they were being imposed upon with taxes, lack of work, and not being taken care of by the monarchs. They French citizens were being drained of the little money they were able to scrap up due to harsh taxes and were left with little money to supply food for their families. The crops suffered from a horrible harvesting for a few years before the revolution, and there was less bread to go around so the government imposed harsh taxes on the bread. The people in France were not taking a liking to the increase in tax and marched to Versilles, causing the monarchy to fall.

Revolt

In 1776 the American Revolution began because The English colonies were being treated by Britain. The British made a lot of laws that were unfair. The 13 English colonies did not agree with these new laws and rebelled against their home country. This ultimately led to their independence and the United State was born.

In 1992 there was what is called a proletariat uprising in Los Angeles. It took the federal army, the national guard and police from throughout the country five days to restore order, by which time residents of L.A. had appropriated millions of dollars worth of goods and destroyed a billion dollars of capitalist property. This was all created because of the view of the the "ghettos". On August 22, 1791, the slaves in northern colony of Haiti reveled against their upper class that begun the Haiti revolution. The slaves and the low class people follow the leader named Dutty Boukman, within hours; the northern plantations were in flames, and then the revolution spread through the entire Haiti. Although Dutty Boukman was captured and executed, the rebellion continued to rapidly spread till the slaves got their freedoms back from France on August 29, 1793. France compromise with the slaves because they cannot stop the revolution and rebellion, and finally they gave their freedoms back. Magna Carta

A good example of a proletarian uprising was when King john of England agreed to sign this document which he proclaim certain rights and acceptance that his will could be bound by the law. Magna Carta was said to be the most significant early influence on the process that led to the rule of constitutional law today in the Magna Carta influenced the development of the common law and many constitutional documents, including the United States Constitution. It was the first document forced onto an English King by a group of his subjects to try to limit his powers by law and protect their privileges. This shows that even the most powerful ruler can be limited..

June 1953- workers all over east germany formed thier own strike committees. organizations during struggles were slowly gaining power. Representatives from the strike committees of nearly every factory in the town. The people were striking for better working conditions, and a government that was actually comprised of the working class. A lot of monarchy and higharchy type governments have been overthrown by the people. French Revolution

From 1789 to 1799 the French Revolution took place and the country's monarchy took a radical change. King Louis XVI incompetency to deal with the disease and plague hitting his country led the French people to revolt against his lavish spending and political choices. The French were already in debt when Louis XVI took ahold of the monarchy with his posh wife Marie Antoinette. The people of France took it upon themselves to storm the Bastille, and stake out Louis and his court in Versailles. The king and queen were both beheaded by their people.

The mexican Revolution in 1910 was brought up by President Porifirio Diaz. He stayed in office for 31 years.Wealth was likewise concentrated in the hands of the few, and injustice was everywhere, in the cities and the countryside alike. People had not right to express their opinions or public officials. later on in the 21 century a new generations of young leaders wanted the right to become a leader but were denied the right. In my opinion I don't think thats right to not have the freedom of speech and not be able to run for something to make a change in your country.http://www.mexconnect.com/en/articles/2824-the-mexican-revolution-1910

Working Class Uprising

In 1953, the working class in East Germany, led by Cajo Brendel, struggled against Bolshevism. Bolshevism is defined as the strategy developed by the Bolsheviks between 1903 and 1917 with a view to seizing state power and establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat. It is also known Soviet Communism. Cajo Brendel was a voice of the people, but in a low-key way. He organized many attacks and revolts against the government, in hopes to change the way the government treated the proletariats. One day some russian troops were surrounded by many factory and labor workers in a town, and the sheer amount was too much for the troops to handle. The German government noticed this and to save themselves the inconvenience of dealing with the proletariats any longer, they reached an agreement which gave the working class more rights.

The Shah subsequently used widespread repression and torture in a dictatorship that lasted until the 1979 Islamic revolution. American Revolution

The first event that came to my mind when I thought about this question was the American Revolution. The British believed that they had complete control over the colonies and so they would tax as much as they wanted to and they would establish the rules for the colonies. Eventually, the colonies got tired of being treated how they were by Britain and decided to rebel. This rebellion led to the American Revolution, and hence overthrowing the British government.

I believe that usually the supressed people have a stronger chance of rebelling and overthrowing the government than the government has control over the loser peopler. One article I found was about the silesian uprisings German and Polish were a series of three armed uprisings of the Poles and Polish Silesians of Upper Silesia, from 1919–1921, against Weimar rule the resistance hoped to break away from Germany in order to join the Second Polish Republic, which had been established in the beggining of World War I. Russia 1917

The Russian revolutions of 1917 involved a series of uprisings by workers and peasants throughout the country and by soldiers, who were predominantly of peasant origin, in the Russian army. The country’s political and economic turmoil, aggravated by the poor leadership of Czar Nicholas II, ultimately led to a revolt by the people. Socialist leaders moved into power, taking advantage of the hostile environment. In February 1917, the regime of Czar Nicholas II fell and a socialist government was formed. After the overthrow of the emperor, a shaky coalition of conservative, liberal, and moderate socialist politicians declared itself the Provisional Government, on February 27, 1917. That government initially received the support of the soviets—the councils that insurgent workers and peasants set up and elected. However, the Provisional Government proved unable to resolve the problems that had led to the February Revolution.

Bolshevik Revolution

In 1917 Provisional Government was asked for land by the soldiers, just like the fellow peasants did. When the government refused to distribute the land farely the peasants took matters into their own hands by taking the land. The Bolshevik party went on the offensive and tried to educate the workers and soldiers, convincing them to seize power and land for themselves. In July 1917, the workers challenged the Provisional Government and ended up defeated, with their leader jailed and Lenin going into hiding. Then two things happened 1st the Provisional Government ordered a big war offensive that ended up in ruin, with thousands being either killed or injured and the soldiers of the Provisional Government began to fall away from their support of the Provisional Government and began to support the workers.

In early October, Lenin convinced the Bolshevik Party to form an immediate insurrection against the Provisional Government. The Bolshevik leaders felt it was of the utmost importance to act quickly while they had the momentum to do so. The armed workers known as Red Guards and the other revolutionary groups moved on the night of Nov. 6-7 under the orders of the Soviet's Military Revolutionary Committee. These forces seized post and telegraph offices, electric works, railroad stations, and the state bank. Once the shot rang out from the Battleship Aurora, the thousands of people in the Red Guard stormed the Winter Palace. The Provisional Government had officially fallen to the Bolshevik regime.

In 2001 the twin towers in New York fell due to the attack of terrorists. This led the U.S. to go to war with Iraq, what we were not expecting was to see that the Taliban and Al Queda had pretty much taken over their country. The things that scared people were the suicide bombings and kidnappings of people at random, and attacks on schools that claimed hundreds of innocent lives. Today its a little better but they still have a form of control over the innocent civilians.

The Romanian Revolution

The Romanian Revolution of 1989 was a week-long series of increasingly violent riots and fighting in late December 1989 that overthrew the Government of Nicolae Ceauşescu. After a trial by a kangaroo court[1], Ceauşescu and his wife Elena were executed. Romania was the only Eastern Bloc country to overthrow its government violently or to execute its leaders. As in neighboring countries, by 1989 the bulk of the Romanian populace was dissatisfied with the Communist regime. Parallel with increasing poverty, the secret police (Securitate) were becoming so ubiquitous as to make Romania essentially a police state.

On December 16, a protest broke out in Timişoara in response to an attempt by the government to evict a dissident, Hungarian Reformed pastor László Tőkés. Tőkés had recently made critical comments toward the regime in the international media[citation needed], and the government alleged that he was inciting ethnic hatred. Some of the protesters attempted to burn down the building that housed the District Committee of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR). The Securitate responded with tear gas and water jets, while the police beat up rioters and arrested many of them. Riots and protests resumed the following day, December 17. The rioters broke into the District Committee building and threw Party documents, propaganda brochures, Ceauşescu's writings, and other symbols of communist power out the windows. Again, the protesters attempted to set the building on fire, but this time they were stopped by military units.

On the morning of December 22, sometime around 9:30 a.m., Vasile Milea, Ceauşescu's minister of defense, died under suspicious circumstances. A communiqué by Ceauşescu stated that Milea had been found to be a traitor and that he had committed suicide after his treason was revealed.Upon learning of Milea's apparent suicide, Ceauşescu appointed Victor Stănculescu as minister of defense.. By refusing to carry out the orders of Ceauşescu's, Stănculescu played a central role in the overthrow of the dictatorship.

The French Revolution (1789–1799) was a period of political and social upheaval and radical change in the history of France, during which the French governmental structure, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for the aristocracy and Catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on Enlightenment principles of citizenship and inalienable rights.

These changes were accompanied by violent turmoil which included the trial and execution of the king, vast bloodshed and repression during the Reign of Terror, and warfare involving every other major European power. Subsequent events that can be traced to the Revolution include the Napoleonic Wars, two separate restorations of the monarchy, and two additional revolutions as modern France took shape.

The presence of this charismatic military genius as the head of France vastly complicated Europe's political landscape and broadened the atmosphere of confrontation which was destined to continue until one of the two sides was defeated. Napoleon himself was not of a disposition to resist playing the same power games as those around him, and so not until 1815 did the wars end with the battle of Waterloo and the return of a monarch to Paris.

United States of America

It was very hard to find anything about overthrown governments online, but I already know about the U.S.' dismemberment of the British Empire in 1776. Evidently, there were many people at the time who argued against the British rule, such as taxing the colonist and taking advatage of the thirteen colonies. The system of the British Empire included that anything the Parilament did was never uncostitutional since they were superior, according to the Parliament. People like Thomas Paine, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and so many others like them who fought against Britain. Then having the such courage to do so was almost though impossible to many citizens then. How would you establish a government when overthrow the one you have? It sounds like a chaotic mess, until people like Thomas Paine published pamphlets and such to arise discussion and to even anger people at the Britsh government. And after many years of struggle, the United States declared there independace in July 1776. "People should not be afraid of their government, the government should be afraid of their people". I believe that it is possible to overthrow a government, but it is the part after that might scare you.

On the contrary, it is bad because governments can use it to control people and they can abuse that power. An example of a surveillance system is as close as Wal-Mart because they have cameras in every department of their store. This is beneficial because it helps to prevent larceny and other felonious acts. However it is deficient because it takes away the profit by maintaining the cameras and hiring people to constantly watch the cameras for criminals. Theres even internet surveillance where the business management can access websites frequented by their employees. This is important because it makes sure employees act appropriately. The way it works is after every action an employee does on a computer the head of the business can go back and see what websites were visited using internet surveillance software.

BACON'S REBELLION

Bacon's rebbellion was the largest uprising before the American Revolution. This started over the American Indian Policy, which later on led to a civil war between anti–American-Indian western settlers and thier governer William Berkely. The Indians were resisting English encroachments on their lands. It all happened in Virginia in the year 1676.This started a lot of the racism towards the American Indians, which later on in the future sheded a lot of blood and fled the colony.

Proletarian Uprisings-American Independence vs. King George III

Background: King George III was the king of England from 1760-1820. Less then a year after he inherited the throne, Britain had just won the lengthy French and Indian War which had claimed all of North America, including the American Colonies. These were goldmines for Britain because the land was rich in animals for fur trapping, plenty of raw materials, and contained all the major rivers for successful trade and industry.

Less than a year after British victory, King George III inherited the throne and was now King of Britain, but he was in A LOT of debt from the previous war. He thought that he could put major taxes on his newly claimed American Colonies to bully them and up for all the money that Britain had lost. He tried to enforce both the Stamp Act (which taxed expensively on stamps) and the Townshend Acts in 1766, which taxed heavily on tea and other popular goods. Finally, the American Colonies had enough of King George III's tyrannical acts. They rebelled by putting on The Boston Tea Party (1776). Outraged colonists dressed up as Native Americans and dumped massive loads of tea from the British East India Company's docked boats into Boston Harbor to show that they could not be pushed around. In reaction to this King George III completely closed down Boston Harbor, where all shipments of goods arrived, and didn't allow for any deliveries. This outraged Colonists more which gave them the strength to draw up the Declaration of Independence, protecting their rights against the British tyranny.

Different Slant

In my Political Science class we have been talking about people's right to over throw the government. If the people do not think that the government is being rational then they have the right to overthrow the existing government and create their own government. For example, the people may believe that their rights are not being protected by the government, they are not being provided for by the government, or they believe the government is doing a poor job at keeping the country stable economically or politically.

This relates to 1984 because the proles have the right to overthrow the government. The government is being unfair by keeping resources from the people. The proles have every reason to overthrow them. They have the resources and ability to do so they just don't have the "brains." The Inner Party keeps the people in fear so that they can have power and control.
