Mrs.Pauchnick our english
Mrs.Pauchnick our english teacher is having us read the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel. Night is a book based on Wiesel experiance in a concentration camp. He tells us everything he had experiance and see while he was held there. I think this book is a good book to read because this book can make you look at life and the world differently. Before I read this book I thought life is so good. But after reading the book "Night" I said to myself that could of been me in Elie situation. That could of been me being torture, working and finding a way to stay alive. Now i look at life differently then I did before.

Joyful Noise
I have recently read a book that Mrs. Pauchnick had let me borrow called "Joyful Noises". This book received a Newbery book award. This book had poems that were written for two voices. It had many interesting poems, what was interesting was that the characters were all insects. One of my favorite poem that I enjoyed reading was "Chrysalis Diary". I thought it was cute that it was written as a diary, when the caterpillar was keeping all of his thoughts as winter went by, then one day he became a butterfly and was able to fly. I agree that this book deserved a Newbery Medal, because it deals with insects in which children can learn about them on how they live. This book was a good book.

Crank
I read the book "Crank" last year and I thought it was really good. It was about this girl Christina who had an alter-ego named bre, she went to stay with her dad for the sumer and met a boy. When she met him she ended up getting introduced to crank, or cocaine. She all of the sudden became in love with it, and her alter-ego was the drive to make her do it more. Whwn she had to go back home she couldnt get a hold of it anymore until she met another boy who had it. She became completly consumed in this downward spiral of "Crank". It was ruining her life. My favorite part of the book is when she finally realizes that shes addicted and she in fact does have a prolem. This book ends and begins in a sequel called Glass, that one I've yet to read.

Crank
A little while back I was reading the book Crank, by Ellen Hopkins. This is what I think of the story and story line. I thought that Ellen Hopkins was insightful for writing this book as well as many others relating to actual people. In this story Christina (Bre), was adicted to the drug crank. And how her life was soon consumed by it. It would tell of her and how her dad was encourge it and do it with her. Although I think that this book was a great book, I do not really have any favorite parts becuase through out the book there was a lot of sad events in her life. And I think that it would'nt be right saying there was a favorite part in the book. Right now I am on the sequel to Crank, which is Glass. And I cant wait to finish it.
Number the Stars
In Mrs. Pauchnicks class we read the book "Night". In my R.O.P. Child Development class, every two months we have to write a Newberry book report. I chose to read "Number the Stars", it was related to the book "Night" in which it involved the Holocaust. The story was very good. It was about a girl Annemarie who has a best friend Ellen, her best friend in Jewish. Annemarie's family would always hide Ellen and her family from the Nazis. Until Ellen got captured. So Annemarie had a mission to go and rescue her friend. It brought a message to all children, on bravery and having courage. It was a good book that I read.

Speak
I remember that in my Junior year in summer school, I was taking freshman english. I had Ms. Mora and I remember pickink out a book to read, I chosed "Speak". That book was very sad to me, because it was about a young girl. Nobody liked her, not even her friends. They all judged her for something that wasn't true. Everyone thought she was a tramp. But as I read toward the end it turned out that she was raped by a guy. It's horrible to read stories that had cruel thing that happened to the character. This story reminded me in my Psychology class with Mrs. Pauchnick when we were learning about teenagers that had gotter abused or date raped. It makes me sad to think about all the girls that had to go through it, they are scared for life.

Monster
"Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member" by Sanyika Shakur is one of the best book I've read I enjoyed it so much. I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. This book explains the life of an Los Angeles gang member how he was a nobody then became a legend in the streets. So if your fascinated by what happens in the life of gang members i recommend this book and you could also learn about another culture and what happens in some other parts of the country.

Paulo Coehlo books: The Alchemist is a favorite
My son and daughter both read The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo in high school here in Miami, and they said I had to read it. I enjoyed it and have read several of his other books now, but I think I still like The Alchemist the best. It is a 'very simple' story with so many interesting insights and ideas. I can also understand why their teachers wanted them to read it. It makes you think about who and what really matter in life. It also makes you think about how you react when you get what life gives you...do you make lemonade, learn to juggle lemons or complain that lemons are sour?
The translations from Portuguese to English seem very easy and smooth and almost lyrical, so I am guessing that he is a powerful writer in Portuguese. This is the 20th anniversary of the publication of The Alchemist. I would be interested to know what other high school students think of this book!
My all time favorite book is
My all time favorite book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The story is narrated by a teenager name Charlie who describes various events in his life through letters to a anonymous friend. In the book there are several different themes that relate to real life like abuse, teenage sexuality, and the awkward years of teenage adolescence. I really enjoy Chboskys' writing style and his use of powerful words.
"When we got out of the tunnel, Sam screamed this really funny scream, and there it was. Downtown. Lights on buildings and everything makes you wonder. Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing.
And in that moment, i swear we were infinite."

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
During my Junior year, we all read the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I really enjoyed that book because it shows that people can change from society. Like society back in Huck's time. They thought Africans were just property, and have no emotion. But Huckleberry finds out they are human beings, have emotions, and aren't slaves. It just shows how good one can be from being unique and away from society.

I have read some good books
I have read some good books throughout my years in high school. One of my favorite books was The Great Gatsby. I really enjoyed reading this book, because it talks about the problems that many people face today. First of all the main character is always looking for more than what he had. He was a product of “new money” verses “old money” he had the new money but really wanted to be part of I different crowd. He tried hard at trying to be something he was not. Daisy loved Gatsby but could not be with him because she was married. In the story everyone has their own dream. The book has many underlying themes, but is an easier read.

A Great Book
I read "IT" by Stephen King. This is the first Stephen King book I ever read, and it is by far my favorite (I have also read Christine, The Dark Side, and Pet Cemetery). It also houses some of my favorite literary characters of all time, including Ben Hanscom and Bill Denbrough. This is more than just a gory, senseless horror novel, it is also a sensitive, coming of age story of seven misfit children. One of my favorite aspects of this novel is how Stephen King switches from when the characters were children to when they are adults randomly throughout the book. IT by Stephen King is a terrific novel with an incredibly excellent ending, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. -Michael Sanchez San Diego, CA, USA
The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
In my 11th grade Honors American Literature class, we read a book called The Great Gatsby. It is now one of my favorite books. This book depicts the idea of the American dream in its entirety. It is quite relevant to our society today in that success is not always all its cracked up to be, money does not buy happiness, and love is not something you just forget. If you like books that open your eyes to different parts of your society and books that are a symbol for something (or many things) much greater than themselves--then this is surely a book you should pick up. It's a pretty easy read but some of the ideas are a bit hard to grasp unless you read deep into the text. This book is award winning and is part of the curriculum for many high school and college courses.

Check Please! by Janice Dickinson
Out of all the books that I have read, my total favorite one is Check Please! by Janice Dickinson. so far I think I've read this book like 3 times. It's mostly about Janice's crazy life and dating advice that she makes up. Its a really interesting book and so far I've given it to about 13 people, all of which loved it to death. my mom also lent it to some of her friends and they all loved it too! it just goes to show that this book is appropriate for all age levels upward of 15. So many people have read my book that some of the pages have even started to fall out! ha ha. If your looking for a good story that can also give some good dating and life advice then i recommend this book!

Perfect Timing
Hello Summer,
What perfect timing to post this great book during this "Black History Month" here in America. For those of you in other countries, people in the U.S.A. devote one month, each year, to recognize what the African Americans have gone through in the history of our country and to honor many great people who have contributed to making our society a better place. Of course, we celebrate other nationalalities but this month is devoted to African Americans.
Thanks for posting this valuable message, Summer, about a great book!

Roots, by Alex Haley. This
Roots, by Alex Haley. This is one of the best book I've ever read. I read it freshman year and it stuck with me all this time. The story is about the decades of American slavery up until the Civil War, and the freedom that followed. The story is based on the main character Kunta Kinte, and the generations of his family that also endure slavery. My favorite character is chicken George, a lovable hard working descendant of the Kinte family. The story is really interesting and beautifully written. Best of all it's based on a true story, which happens to be the author's. Be sure to read his notes and story in the back of the book, too. -Summer D. San Diego, CA, United States.

Good Book
I read Purity In Death, by J.D. Robb. I think this is a very good book in the series. Eve Dallas is an amazing character. This story take place in 2059, in New York City. This series is about Eve solving cases in New York. It tells you all about different events and how they solve problems diffently then as compared to now. One of the cool things is that the cars can fly. Even though it's fictional I will recommed this book to anyone who like's learning about the activities of Detectives.
