By Garth Nix

When Arthur is writhing on the ground struggling to get one small breath, not wanting to die at is fourteen, and with vitality is slipping away, he is saved by a girl and her brother. While Arthur is lying on the ground wheezing for one shred of life, he sees two men both dressed as if they are from the 1700’s, and he thinks it a hallucination from lack of oxygen. After the girl and her brother go to the school to get help, it seems life has bigger plans for Arthur and his family. Arthur's asthma mysteriously disappears after he is given a gold and silver clock hand. Things start to change rapidly for Arthur, starting with a new virus outbreak, dubbed the "sleepy plague", that force him to search for a way out of his nightmare.

After rereading this book several times, it has turned into one of my favorite books. It is the best book I have ever read and in a whole series of amazing books all written by Garth Nix, my favorite author. I noticed that after reading this book my finger nails were worn down to stubs from me gnawing at them in anticipation of what was going to happen to Arthur next!
