Thoughts From Our Island

6th Grade Writers Share Their Thoughts With The World
To find a certain writer click on Blog Postings under Main navigation on the left hand side of the screen.

Please Comment

Some students have been asking for more feedback on their writing. If you could while you are on the blog add a comment on a piece of writing. If you look under blog postings (button on the left) then select your author. Faith has several pieces she would like to have reviewed.

Thanks,

Mrs. Schuh

An Invitation To Write!

I know a lot of you read and watched the digital story I created.  Thanks for all the encouraging words. I am hoping that some of you decide you want to stay after school to create your own pieces.  I will be hosting digital storytelling labs Tuesday's and Friday's after school starting this week.  I hope to see both 6th graders and 7th graders take part.  I want all of you to connect with your own writing using pictures and sound.  So come join us from 3:30-6:00pm or however long you can stay.

My Writing Pals from The Red Cedar Writing Program

Red Cedar Writing Program is a wonderful program.  If you are interested in their summer program here is the website.  I would encourage anyone who loves to write to take part in this program.  It has made me a better writer and I learned a lot in a short period of time.

The Rain

Clouds form above me and I start to feel little drop of crystal clear water upon my face. Then I hear thunder in the distance. Few minutes pass, rain still sprinkling my face. The thunder sounds closer now and the wind is really picking up. I stay outside to see what happens but it starts to pour buckets on me.

The water is ice cold now. I run to the back porch and watch it rain.

I hear sirens, loud sirens. I'm not sure what to do so i sit still, watching cars with bright red flashing lights go by. They see me and come take me! Me not knowing what was going on did nothing.

Cystic fibrous

Is what this poem is about

You’ve had it for years,

You can’t get rid of it,

It won’t get better

It keeps colleting in your lungs

You feel trapped

It is hard for others to understand you

People think it’s a joke

Then they realize this is real

life in poverty

Everyday I come home from the store,

with some cans of fruit.

I wish we could afford more.

We need help,

and we need money.

We live on the streets,

trying to fight the truth of our real lives.

All I want is a real house and to go to school,

with real friends.

My family is getting thin,

it looks like we just have bones and skin.

So please help when you can,

instead of getting a tan, try to donate to cherity for other families like us.

We need help fast our only money wont last.

Thank you!

Hola estudiantes

Sorry, students, but I don't blog from the desert! Over Spring Break I enjoyed being with my family that lives in Mesa, AZ. I walked and hiked the desert and surrounding mountains and took a lot of pictures. I will make the photos available on-line shortly for all of you to see.Saguaro: A little hike through a botanical garden.Saguaro: A little hike through a botanical garden.share.

Good Morning From the Airport

Good Morning From the Airport

Hi kids, I am on my way home today. So far it has been a quiet morning. I don't know how many of you have traveled by plane lately but security is very tight. It took awhile to get through to our gate but now I am here and ready to fly home. I hope all of you have had a wonderful break. If you want to blog your own trips or upload pictures from your break feel free to do so as long as they are appropriate. This is not an invitation to put any pictures up, please keep it to important events or relevant topic pictures. I am inviting Mr. Ackerson to write about his trip to Phoenix and hopefully he will.

Ben Franklin Institute

Ben Franklin Institute

Today we also went to the Ben Franklin Institute. We did not get a chance to walk through but I have included a link for you to learn more. I was awe struck by the marble statue in the lobby. The Philadelphia museum was next on our list. This is the site of the famous Rocky shot. Rocky is running up the steps….this may be a little before your time, ask your parents. Frida Kahlo, one of the artists from our social studies book is the featured artist of the month.
