Breath Savers Spark

Over the past three days our classroom has been taking part in an experiment with breath mints.  The first day we tried to see sparks in a dark room using sugar free breath mints.  We did not observe any sparks.  The second day we did see blue sparks after chewing up a winter-green breath mint (not sugar free). The last day we used peppermint (with sugar) and did not see any sparks.  What is going on?  How do these mints produce a spark?

Great Dog Story

So as all of you know I have a Great Pyrenees and a huge love for dogs. I found this blog site that I thought some of you might find interesting.  It is amazing what one person can do when they set their mind to it.

Poinsettia Problem

One wintery Christmas day little Billy was having a feast with his family.  They were all enjoying the Christmas festivities when Billy's mother abruptly jumped up from the table screaming "NO, DON'T EAT THAT!" While Billy knew that his grandmothers fruit cake was not that appatizing, his mother was being a bit rude.  At that moment Billy followed his mother's gaze and saw that the family cat, Roy, was eating the poinsettia.  The whole table errupted at that point worried that Roy would drop dead at any moment, for poinsettia's are said to be highly toxic especially to cats.

Fred and Three Chubby Chicks

This is a story our class created together using three photos.  Let us know what you think!

"Look at me, look at me...I can go in and out through the soil." said Fred while playing in the green grass.  The worm looked up into the sky and saw a black dot.  It came closer and closer and closer.  "What is that?" wondered Fred.  He squinted his beady eyes and suddenly realized what the object was.  "Oh my gosh, it's a bird!" shrieked the panicked Fred.

The crystal blue sky was the perfect backdrop for Woody's hunting adventure.  "What's that little tiny dot coming out of the ground?"  As Woody the bird got closer he saw it was a big fat juicy worm.  "Oh, that worm looks like a great lunch for me."  Woody closed in on the little, helpless worm.  Fred screamed, "Don't eat me!" but Woody grabbed a hold of him with his beak.  "My worm is stuck, my worm is stuck." grunted Woody, desperately trying to pull Fred out of the ground.  He pulled and pulled, but the little sucker wouldn't come out.  Finally after some sweat and tears, Fred popped out of the dirt like a jack in the box.

As he drifted through the cloudless sky, Fred struggled to get away.  He tried to scream but felt as if his breath had been taken away.  They neared a nest filled with hungry little birds.

"Daddy, feed me, please.  You haven't fed us in hours." cried Woody Jr. and his siblings.  As Woody landed in the nest, the unconscious worm jerked awake and cried out, "No, no, you can't eat me, I’m too young to die.”  “Feed us now, Daddy." squawked the hungry babies.

"No, get your own.” said Woody.  “I spent the last thirty minutes trying to get this worm for my lunch!”  "But Daddy, we’re dying!" said the starving babies.  The fuzzy chubby chicks grabbed the worm and tugged.  “It's mine!” “No, it's mine!”  As the chicks pulled on both ends of Fred, they heard a slimy tearing sound.  Fred's eyes bulged as he realized that he had been torn in half.  "Oh no, I hate it when this happens.  This is the fifth time this week I've had to regenerate new parts.”  With that, the two Freds fell out of the nest and landed on the ground with a soft thump and crawled away.
