Genres; how they connect with reading and writing

So then you think that genre only has to do with text?  Look up the french meaning of genre.  Tell me what you think about that definition.

I guess those things could be a genre...because it is one type of writing...like science fiction. But I'm not sure what it would be named. I reserched Genre in French and i THINK it means kind. the page i was at was confusing. I think the definition is to the point and tells what it means. So yeah i think what people write on Facebook, and our blog could be a genre.

Well no, pictures could be a genre of there own too. Genre is "a kind" in French. So ya, It really could be be things we say on Facebook, and in texts and also maybe pictures!

Yeah i think pictures could be a genre...and i think there could be genres of pictures. Like animals, people, sunsets ect.

Hmm.  So what is a genre then?  What makes something qualify as a genre?  What is the definition?

A genre is a of a type of one thing. Like Sci-Fi and Fantasy. To qualify as a genre it has to have certain characteristics. For example, to be a Sci-Fi book/story/novel... it kinda' has to do with science but it's still fiction.

Definition-

1  a kind or type of literary, musical, or artistic work

2  a kind of painting depicting incidents from everyday life 

So what genre would you associate with texting?  Are there certain criteria that make you believe that texting fits into a certain genre?

you use big words that make me confused. I'm not sure if this is the answer to your question or not, considering that i'm not entirely sure what your question means.

but i think that texting could go into the fiction,nonfiction genres...depending on what the text says.

Criteria means the characteristics of the genre.  So as you mentioned in science fiction the criteria for that specific genre is scientific, fiction.  Does that make sense?

Texting could belong to almost any writing genre. It just depends on what the text says. There should be a genre just for IM and texting.

My favorite genre is Sci-Fi. Yes I have been reading Three Cups of Tea. It good so far but It's a little slow for me.
