Coming Up Next...

Next week is a BIG week...our first REPORT CARDS!!  I know all the students are so excited! LOL!!!  Report Cards will be coming home on Thursday, October 30. Honor Roll is going to be held at 8:00 AM on Friday, October 31.

In Math this week, we will begin working on factors, greatest common factors, divisibility, multiples and least common multiples. Our greatest challenge still seems to be multiplication. We really need to review our facts! Please help your children... practice, practice, practice!!!

Coming up Next...

Howdy everyone! Welcome to my first "Coming up Next" blog page. This section is designed to keep you up to date with activities, tests and major projects that your children will be facing in the week to come.

Coming up Next...

Monday of this week is going to be a busy one! We will be having our second DARE class, to honor national Constitution Day we will have local lawyers speak to the fifth grade students about the laws of our land and how our founding fathers developed the Constitution, and we will be taking a test on Chapter 2 of our Math text- Decimals.

DARE

So, one of the 5th grade only activities has started...DARE!  What did you all think of your first class? Officer Stripling is pretty cool, and is going to make the next 10 Mondays fun and educational. He has been doing this for a while, so you don't have to worry about asking questions...he has answers! I'm sure he has seen it all in his 22 years of being in the MCSD.

Tell me what you think! Questions, concerns, thoughts about the class...I want to hear from you!

Good Morning!

This assignment is going to be a fun one! It is going to work on your steps in a process, organizational skills, and creativity.

I would like for you to research a recipe. It can be a new recipe that you would like to try, or one that makes your favorite food. Write down the steps to create the recipe...don't forget to write down how much of each ingredient you need. We can tie math into this lesson as well! That is it! I would like for you to bring in your recipe by Thursday, September 4. At that point, I will tell you the next step to your assignment.

Trust me...this is going to be fun!!!!!

What's Going On?

School is back in full swing. That is a good thing! I enjoy being able to teach and have fun with my students. Introducing them to new concepts and watching them mature as learners is very rewarding.

This week we started a novel. It is Beetles, Lightly Toasted, and is about a 5th grade boy who really wants to win an essay contest. The book is filled with imagination! We read the first chapter today, and the kids really enjoyed it. You parents will have to talk to your child about the book...who knows, you may want to read it too!

We have also started studying matter in science. The kids are learning about mass, weight, bouyancy, volume, and density. It is a heavy subject (LOL!!!), but they seem to be doing well with it so far!

Rough Begining!

Wow! Have we had a rough begining to our year together, or what?!?!?!  I don't think I have ever had one that started out with a tropical storm... The GOOD news (because it is important to find some good in everything) is that Tropical Storm Fay dropped enough water on the state of Florida that we no longer have a dought index! Isn't that GREAT!!! She worked her way across the state in a way so as to drop rain on every inch of Florida soil.

Hope you all had a great weekend, and are ready to get started in full swing. Rest well, eat breakfast, and I will see you all in class.

Great To Meet YOU!!!

I was a pleasure to meet everyone on Friday afternoon! Cool  I am excited for the school year to begin, and hope you are looking forward to it as well. Don't forget to bring your school supplies in on Monday. We will spend the morning organizing your desks, cubbies, binders and planners. I will also be handing out your account information for this site.

I am hoping that we will miss out on Tropical Storm Fey next week, but, if not, we will pick up and keep moving forward. Don't let it scare you...it is a fact of life in Florida.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school and to Ms. Harrison's 5th grade! This is going to be your best year yet! We have so much going on: learning and exploring new ideas, concepts, skills and using new technologies along the way. You are going to want to stay here forever! Cool

The first thing you will notice about your new classroom is a big white board with a video camera hanging off of it. That is our new Promethean board! It is interactive, and you will be using it just like me! It has so many different things that we can do with it...you will want to be the teacher! LOL!!!
