Workday 7 May 10th
This workday was comprised of the Mulligan family and the Jones family. We were disappointed but understand that it is mother's day weekend which, we are hoping, is the reason nobody came. Despite the zero turnout we actually got a lot done. Paul Mulligan set up a new Rubbermaid storage shed for holding our equipment. He also went to the church construction site and got more limestone rock from their trash pile to complete the edging. Mark Jones put his muscles to work with the wheel barrow and brought in the loads of rock and mulch. Kerri Jones and myself laid weed barrier in the cactus garden and spread the mulch. We also hooked up a new hose ( the other one kept kinking up) and installed the faucet on the utility sink. We got a Toro blower which made cleaning off the hardscape much quicker. Paul is going to get a metal stake to attach our new rain gauge to and position it so kids can view the rainfall amount from the windows. The fence contractor was supposed to meet with us this week to make decisions about adding the fence to our animal areas but he canceled. Hopefully he will reschedule next week. Next Saturday will be an important day. We have got to install the new center path and that is going to be a big job. My dad will be here from Kansas so I will be putting him to work along with my husband. We may try to get a class contest going to get more families here for next week.

My Kindergarten children had
My Kindergarten children had the pleasure of experiencing real life science on a weekly basis. Through "hands on" visits to the KES courtyard, they learned important scientific concepts that could have never been possible with just books. We observed chicken habitats and collected eggs for months while recording and graphing the egg data. As a culminating activity, we celebrated by eating scrambeled eggs in the classroom! (Green of course- after reading Green Eggs and Ham) Thanks so much for the incredible experience for my kiddos.
