Skype with Topeka, Kanzas  Topeka classTopeka class

In November 2007 our students, 13 to 17 years of age had a Skype meeting with their friends from Topeka, Kanzas. Before that, we had shared a blog where our students had exchanged the information of their everyday life with their peers from Kanzas. The blogging lasted for about a month and then we agreed upon skyping. That was a real challenge for my students. I thought the conversation would last for a half an hour or so, but, to my surprise, it lasted for an hour and a half. That was the first project of that kind but hopefully there will be more of them, with other schools, of course.

The Way We Are project

We have just begun a new project called The Way We Are. The aim of the project is to make students from around the world closer to each other. By exchanging e-mails, students will have a closer look at evryday life of their peers, their routines, habits, likes/dislikes, their environment and culture. For the time being, we've got two partner schools; one from Colorado, USA and one from Brazil.Interested? Contact us at: speakup@epals.com.

And, if you want to see what our students learnt about their e-pals from these two countries, follow the link: http://speakup-thewayweareproject.blogspot.com

My winter holiday

                               My winter holiday

I went on Rudnik. We played football, tennis, table tennis and went swimming. I saw a forest house, a square, a park, a mine. We had a nice time. Rudnik is a beautiful mountain.

Why do people choose to use slang

Why do people choose to use slang when they can use other words?

First of all, I have to admit that I have found myself in this line, and indeed, why do we all use slang beside all those appropriate words? For example, why would we rather say “bad egg”, instead of “bad person”, or why do we say   “cool” which is absolutely the best example?  I’ve got an explanation.

WISE WORDS

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.Cool

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.

Yesterday, a guest arrived in our school. His name is Snuggle and he's a geobear Snuggle arrived well equipped. He brought a little bag, his diary and a pencil to write down his adventures in Serbia, and some gifts (a pack of sweets for the children and a little cup). He must've come by boat, since we found a little boat in the package. He also brought  a postcard and some brocures about Seattle, Washington.

The Bruce Mansion

The Bruce Mansion is a historical landmark in my town. We have an annual fall festival there every year it is located in Waitsburg, WA.

Greeting from Preston Hall Middle School

We are excited to be able to join this blog site to interact with and learn from people from around the world.  Preston Hall Middle School is located in Waitsburg, WA, a town of 1,200 people in the southeastern portion of our state.  Although the Waitsburg School District is the community's largest single employer, agriculture is the major industry in our area, along with the accompanying agri-businesses.

Our class is made up of 6th and 7th grade students--8 in each learning group.  We have 10 student computers which students use a major portion of each day.  The 7th grade students are registered to participate on this site, and we look forward to their respectful interaction with students from any other countries and locations.

LET"S HAVE FUN

some atmosphere from our classsome atmosphere from our classThe main thing when you begin to work as a teacher, is your approach to the kids and to the process of learning. They're very sensitive areas, especially when the kids are of different age as ours are. You have to find a sort of balance. Each of us, teachers ,does it in his or her own way and gives our best. But do we all succeed in that?I realised one thing: You shouldn't be just a good teacher, but also a good psychologist and a good organiser. Very early, in my first year of teaching I realised: THE MOST IMPORTANT IN ALL OF THIS IS TO HAVE FUN.Cool
