So we’re heading toward the final phase of school . . . the countdown mode. It seems that the better the weather gets the more of their attention we lose. How can we keep their (and our) interest from leaving the port? One answer is to let them go; take a voyage with them to discover new ways to learn and engage minds. Most of you have used Discovery Education [1] streaming videos in your classrooms already. You know how to log in, and you search for video segments that supplement your lessons. What you may not know, however, is that DE offers more than just video streaming, and there are some exciting ways to apply these resources. After logging in to the DE website, at the top of the page, click on MY DE just before the DE Streaming tab. On the left side of the page under the Resources heading, see Teacher Center and click View More Resources. This will take you to the Teacher Center page where you can find Classroom Tools and Curriculum Resources. Take some time to look at the quiz builder, the writing prompt builder, lesson plans, the interactive atlas, and more. Discover some new ways to engage students with this rich online resource! Coming soon: Discovery Education workshop on campus just for you. Parting gift: Did you know that DE has close to 400 elementary school songs (yes, even for the intermediate grades) on the site that you can download and embed in PowerPoints or other presentations?
