A Creative Waste of Time

We're stuck . . . right in the middle . . . a couple of TAKS days lie behind us, a few more are yet to come.  You may be expecting some great technology tip here to enhance learning in your classroom, but this time let’s just take a moment to breathe and have some fun.  My mission:  to waste your time.

Here is a list of websites from Patrick Crispen for you to try when you’re in that “I need something, but I don’t quite know what it is mode,” so that you can relax, smile, and maybe recharge for another day.  TRY THEM AT HOME (don’t blame me if you try at work and get the screen of death) and let me know if they make you smile.

  • Custom Sign Generator—A collection of fake sign and image generators.  Explore, create, see what you can do to bring a laugh.
  • DWheel—An optical illusion that will make your hand wiggle.
  • Worth 1000—A Photoshop competition site with original images.  Be a part of the voting public, or enter if you're a Photoshop fanatic.
  • FreePlay Music—Okay, maybe this one has some educational value.  This is a collection of short royalty-free, downloadable music for use in classroom projects.
  • Zombo—Just the greatest website in the world.  You can do anything at Zombocom.
  • Internet Phenomena—A linked list of cultural landmark events <smile> from Wikipedia for this generation.  Try these links.  Some of them will make you understand why students are the way they are :-)
  • Subservient Chicken—Need to feel the power?  You can make this person in a chicken costume respond to over 300 commands.  Start with "Do the YMCA."
  • Cute Overload—If you're into cuddly animal pictures, this is your heaven.  It's a really, really, really, so very cute collection of animal photos.  If you like these, try ICanHasCheezBurger, too.
  • NetDisasterDoesn’t work from school, so don’t try it.  Use it to [pretend] lay waste to  your favorite/least favorite website.

Do you have some favorite Internet time-wasters of your own?  Share them with the rest of us in the comments section.
