Flat Stanley Project
Our pupils are exposed to a variety of cultures by exchanging Flat Stanleys.
A Flat Stanley visit friends by travelling around the world in an envelope. Students' written work goes to other places by conventional mail and e-mail.
Students make paper Flat Stanleys and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then, Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to another school where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. Flat Stanley and the journal are then returned to the original sender. We send the Flat Stanleys back with pictures, souvenirs, stories and reminders of the visit.Share your impressions with us.

HI from Brazil
Hi there! I am a 5th grade teacher in Curitiba, Brasil. I would love to find a few classes for my students to send their Flat Stanleys to visit around the world. We study ESL and I\'d love to have a Flat Stanley travel to each of the 7 continents. We would be sending one Flat Stanley to your class along with a journal page, a passport and a souvenir from Brasil. My students will have information about our community and school on the journal page and your students/class could respond to the same questions.

Michigan, USA
Hello, from Northwest High School in Jackson, Michigan, USA. Northwest High School is located just outside of the city of Jackson. We are a rural school with 1050 students in our High School. Our school district was founded in 1954. We are the Northwest "Mounties" and our school colors are Black & Red. Our varsity girl’s basketball team just won the CACC championship. This was the first time our girl’s team has won a championship. We are very proud and excited for them. We just celebrated "Snow Fest", this is centered around the boys and girls of the school. Each class 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, elects 2 boys and 2 girls to represent each class. They are voted on by all of the students to see who will be elected the "King & Queen" of the Snow fest Dance. The students go all out with decorations and their attire for the dance.
We just finished our 2nd Trimester yesterday 3-6-09. The students had tough exams all week and everyone is relieved to be done. We are starting our 3rd and final Trimester of the school year on Monday 3-9-09. We will be celebrating "Spring Break" at the end of the month. All of the students are looking forward to the 10 days off from school. A lot of the 12th graders (Seniors) go to Florida (it is about 40 degrees warmer there).
The weather here is now starting to get warmer (55 degrees Fahrenheit). It has been snowing and cold all winter (-15 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. We finally lost all of the snow this week!! Spring is a very exciting time in Michigan, the trees get their leaves back, and the grass starts to grow. Michigan is full of beautiful trees and flowers. We have all four seasons. Spring will last until June, then we will have Summer. School will end for the year on June 8th, and we will not return until September 5th.

New Zealand
Dear Hagit and pupils, Thank you for hosting Flat Sunshine. She is looking forward to her visit, as well as your flat’s visit to New Zealand. We are a homeschooling family living on the hibiscus coast of New Zealand. We have two delightful girls, Melissa age 8, and Sarah age 5. Melissa enjoys snowboarding, soccer, sailing, reading and judo. Her favourite subject to study is Ancient Egypt and her Can you please write our names in Hebrew? favourite books are all by Enid Blyton, other than Harry Potter. Sara enjoys collecting shells on the beach, sailing, ballet, and Pippins. After her visit, please return the Flat Sunshine in the envelope enclosed. Thanks for trading. Regards, The Albom Family (Jeff, Rhonda, Melissa and Sarah)
What is the primary language you speak in class? Please mark where your school is on What other languages are taught at school? the map. At what age do children start and end school? What kind of uniforms do students wear to school? What are some of the student’s favourite things to do at school? Please take a photo of Flat Sunshine in your classroom.
What subjects do you study? What else do you want to tell us about your school?
What sports do you play at school? Do you play against other schools? What other sports are available for children? What sports are played professionally?
Can one student please tell us about their daily life, including typical meals and hobbies..
In New Zealand, the police don’t carry guns, children can safely shop unsupervised and many neighbors don’t lock their doors, even at night. We read and hear many stories of danger in Israel. What is it like to live there, and what do to protect yourself?
Please tell us about Israeli holidays. (Our family celebrates the Jewish holidays.)
Please tell us about something we would not think to ask about.

Framingham, Massachusetts
Shalom! I am a first grade teacher at a Jewish Day School in Framingham, Massachusetts, USA. Could we sent Flat Stanley to visit your class in Israel? Also, we would be happy to host your Flat Stanley if you would like to exchange. My students are not bilingual, but they know a lot of Hebrew. We do have a school website- it is www.mwjds.org.
Thanks! Rebecca Byard
