Holidays- USA

Okay.
My name is Tori, I am a 13- year old girl and I live in Rochester, NY, which is in the United States. The dominent religion of the US is Christianity, although, personally, I am a Reform Jew. In my specific shool (twelve Corners Middle School), there are quite a few Jews, but in the surrounding districts, some of my friends are one of two of three Jews in the entire school.
In the US we celebrate Holloween, Thanksgiving, the 4th of July, and New Years, although most celebrate Christmas, too, and Easter.
My family doesn't really do much for these American holidays, but we celebrate all of the Jewish holidays. My personal favorites are probably Purim and Channukkah.

Holidays in Rochester NY

My name is Zoe and I am also jewish, but my mom is catholic, so on Christmas and easter i go to my grandparents house, go to church, and celebrate those holidays. Everyone on my Mom's side of the family comes out for Christmas, we have a nice dinner Christmas night and the rest of the time we play cards; hearts and gin, and play outside. For the jewish holidays, one of my favorites is probably Rosh Hashanah, despite the long services, they can last about three hours, which really isn't that long, since i am reform, many people have much longer services. Another of my favorite holidays is Passover or Pesach, i love seders. Like Tori said, there are a lot of jews in our school, but many of them have one non-jewish parent.

10th June- a Portuguese National holiday

Hello, from Portugal!

I'm writing to share with you a coming National holiday here, in Portugal. On the 10th June we are commemorating a holiday. It's a national one, related to one of the greatest writers we've already have... Luís de Camões... have you heard about him?? He wrote one very important book OS LUSÍADAS, in poetry about the history of Portugal. It is considered the Portugal Day and we also celebrate the fact that Portugal conquered many places, like in Africa, or Brazil!

Hope you liked to know about this holiday!

Helena.

India

To celebrate the birthday of Gandhi,we at St.Mark's School organised several activities. Grade 11 and 12 students took an incident from the great man's life and enacted it out for the class to see. Each incident had Gandhi's message in it.The students enacted the Dandi March, the non cooperation Movement etc.beautifully.It was a beautiful way of remembering the Father of our Nation,Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Hope you appreciate them.

Bye! Geeta
